Key events
Manchester United 0-0 West Ham. They’ve also kicked off at Old Trafford. For detail, Baz is your boy!
Arsenal 0-0 Everton. The big top versus nearly bottom clash in the Premier League kicks off at the Emirates. “Apparently there’s a new song celebrating Bukayo Saka being sung to the tune of David Bowie’s Starman,” reports Charles Antaki. “Wonderful though the North Bank crowd’s rendition will be, it won’t hold a candle to the Krankies’ ineffable version.”
Burnley 0-0 Fleetwood. Nearly the ultimate embarrassment for Nsiala, whose blind backpass nearly beats his own keeper. Fortunately for the Fleetwood defender, Lynch, who had been on walkabout, rushes back to clear off the line, and the ball doesn’t quite make it into the bottom-left corner.

Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. Holohan is robbed in the centre circle by Alcaraz, who strides down the middle. Alcaraz slips a pass left for Orsic, who draws the nearest defender and uses him as cover before bending a low shot wide right of goal.
Burnley 0-0 Fleetwood. Not a great deal going on yet. Burnley, pretty much as you’d expect, are seeing an awful lot of the ball, though.
Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. Djenepo springs the Grimsby defence down the right before cutting back for Mara, who slams home emphatically. But the flag immediately goes up for offside, Djenepo having gone far too soon.
Burnley 0-0 Fleetwood. They’re underway at Turf Moor, where Championship takes on League One.
Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. The Mariners move up a couple of gears, and claim for a penalty kick when Efete cuts in from the right and attempts to burst into the box. Over he goes, under pressure from Caleta-Car. There was contact, but it looked shoulder to shoulder, and in any case it was just outside the box. Still, that’s better from the visitors, and Southampton’s defensive unease will give them encouragement.
Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. Walker-Peters dribbles down the right and wins a corner for the Saints. Caleta-Car meets the set piece with a weak header and the visitors clear their lines without too much fuss. The League Two side have settled a little bit now, having weathered Southampton’s super-fast start.
Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. The hosts continue to attack. Djenepo swans down the left and stands one up for Orsic, who heads lamely towards Crocombe. Grimsby quickly give the ball away, Lavia sending Mara clear down the middle. Crocombe saves brilliantly, one on one, and though the flag then goes up correctly for offside, the Grimsby keeper wasn’t to know that. Great stop.
Southampton 0-0 Grimsby. The Mariners get the ball rolling by the Solent. But it’s Saints who are quickly on the attack, Armstrong making some good ground down the left before swinging the ball towards nobody in particular. Goal kick, but a fast start by the hosts.
What a rollercoaster ride of entertainment and emotion that last hour of drip, drip, drip team news was. But there’s more! The evening’s action is about to start. Southampton and Grimsby Town have just taken to the pitch at St Mary’s, and we’ll be off in a couple of minutes.
