Former India National Cricket Team captain Mohammad Azharuddin has opined that the current Pakistan National Cricket Team all-format captain Babar Azam is overburdened by leadership responsibility.
The 28-year-old Mohammad Babar Azam leads the Men In Green across all three formats of the game. However, recently some reports have emerged claiming that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking to sack Babar as an all-format skipper.

So far, Babar has captained Pakistan in 18 Tests, winning 8, losing 6 and 4 ending in a draw. He has led Pakistan in 21 ODIs, winning 13, losing 7, and one match being tied. Babar has led Pakistan in 66 T20Is, which is the most by any player, of which they have won 40 and lost 21, with 5 matches having no result.
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Azharuddin said that Babar is not a natural opener and he should consider batting in the middle-order in T20Is. He said:

“The burden of leadership overburdens him. Performance is not affected, but not showing traditional form in short format World Cup.
“The captain of the Pakistan team is not a natural opener; if there is a problem with the form, he finds it difficult to score runs; there is no problem if he bats at lower numbers as well.”
Both are players of their own style, so there is no comparison, but…. – Mohammad Azharuddin on Babar Azam, Virat Kohl
Azharuddin further talked about Virat Kohli and Babar Azam and said that both the players have got a different style and there is no comparison between the two. However, he added that Kohli is “slightly better” than Babar because of his more than a decade-long experience.
He said: “Both are players of their own style, so there is no comparison, but the Indian batsman has vast experience and is the best. Having a long record of performance, Kohli is slightly better. Overall Babar Azam’s performance is not affected much due to leadership in all three formats, but he could not show his traditional form during the T20 World Cup.”
